I see what u did there. Drawing on photo-manipulation. Nice! I never thought of that. although the blending technique could be better. i can see the separation between the water and the "rock" The hand on the rock too..that could have been reworked as well. The background really really needs to be reworked. I feel it's not quite there yet. But the idea is killer!
Its actually all painted, but I often make custom brushes from photographic elements which definitely lends to the photo-manipulation look. I agree there are elements that could use more fine tuning, but generally speaking, I'm happy with it. Thanks for the feedback. While I don't always revisit my previous work, I always keep people's critiques in mind while working on later pieces.
I think you did a great job rendering the character. The splashes and the bright light in the background bother me though. I want to understand where such a bright light is coming from. It is not immediately obvious.
Thanks. The background is not very obvious, and being out of focus is part of the reason. However the bright light is meant to be perceived as a glimpse of the world outside the cove from between the cavern's rocky walls. I appreciate your feedback as it gives me a view of the image from another perspective, and those views always help in growing as an artist.
Ok. I understand leaving the background somewhat blurry, but if that's what you are going for than defining the edges of the rock walls a little bit more, and maybe adding rays of light coming through and changing the top texture of the wall to resemble the rest of the wall would help that idea come across more clearly.

Thanks for being respectful of my opinion.
