Did you work on it in greyscale first or did you paint it in colours from the start? I'm pretty sure I can see the technique used in the strokes, which by themselves seem like a pretty straightforward technique but still with impressive results.

This one was done with straight forward colors. Sometimes I wait until later in the image to play with color overlays and tweak things a bit. I usually do it that way, because I find it a little harder to get the exact colors I was planning for when starting in black and white.

Alright. I usually feel the other way around; that starting with colours makes building the right shades and tones a bit of a hassle.

yah most people do. I find its definitely easier to get the idea down in BnW, but my brain wants to make most of the grays to light. Then all I end up with is very faded pastel colors when I do a color layer. Either way, I'm all over the place, and tend to approach each image in an entirely different manner. You just have to do whatever feels right.
